Sandi Geography Teacher Nothemba Mesatywa visits Berkhamsted
Pupils and staff at Berkhamsted Collegiate School enjoyed hosting the visit of Miss Nothemba Mesatywa during the final week of the summer term.
Miss Mesatywa teaches Geography at Sandi Senior Secondary School and so part of her stay involved spending time and building links with the Geography Department. She also took part in other lessons as well as joining with the whole of Year 6 in the Prep. School. The pupils had plenty of questions and Miss Mesatywa's answers gave them a greater insight into life in the Eastern Cape. She was also able to visit the Head of Geography at another local school.
This was Miss Mesatywa's first trip to England and so day visits to Oxford and London were included in her itinerary. She experienced Sung Evensong at St. Albans Abbey followed by a visit to what is reputedly England's oldest Public House. She was also able to enjoy a film at Berkhamsted's wonderful Rex Cinema!
The final day of the visit was Senior School Speech Day and Miss Mesatywa was very moved when the school choir sang a South African piece which some of the pupils had learnt from the Sandi Choir last summer.
Miss Mesatywa's visit helped to develop the relationship between the two schools and as they say in Xhosa, 'siyakukhumbula' ('we miss you').
